The San Francisco Giants were among the biggest winners at the trade deadline, with Buster Posey's second trade deadline taking a significant step forward and taking six players off San Francisco's major-league roster. The team acquired a 23-year-old infielder considered a top-20 prospect in baseball as recently as last season, a coveted Cuban shortstop, and three pitching prospects from the latest international signing period. In addition to the expected trades of Luis Arraez, Robbie Ray and Tyler Mahle, the Giants also acquired two players under team control for another three years in Heliot Ramos and Erik Miller. The acquisitions included Marcelo Mayer, a highly regarded Red Sox shortstop prospect who had been struggling with injuries and production in the big leagues, and Henry LaLane, and Kaeden Kent, Jeff Kent’s son, in return. The Giants also added two lower-level middle infielders to their farm system.
