Cleveland Browns owner Jimmy Haslam and his family broke ground on the $2.4 billion domed stadium set to open in 2029. The 67,500-capacity facility will be next to Cleveland Hopkins International Airport and about 15 miles south of downtown Cleveland. However, the $600 million committed to the project is on hold due to a class-action lawsuit challenging the use of $1 billion from the state's Unclaimed Funds Account to fund sports facilities in Ohio, violating constitutional prohibitions against using private property for government purposes. The city of Brook Park still has not approved its $245 million funding plan. The Haslam Sports Group is covering most of the costs at $1.76 billion, with any cost overruns anticipated. The stadium will feature a folded plate transparent roof, allowing plenty of sunlight to come in, but also shielding fans from cold temperatures.
