Dirk Kempthorne, a Republican politician who spent over two decades in Idaho, has passed away at the age of 74. Kempthorn rose quickly from Boise Mayor to US Senator to Idaho Governor to US Secretary of the Interior. His political career spanned more than two decades, spanning from 34 years. He was known for his efforts to revitalize Downtown Boise and create jobs and quality of life in his adopted hometown. Despite being diagnosed with colon cancer last spring, he remained committed to his work in Boise. He is survived by his wife Patricia, his adult children, and his grandkids.
