High School Athlete Dies of Rare Disease After ‘Weeks In and Out of the Hospital’

Waseh Sultani, a 17-year-old high school student from Paramus, New Jersey, died after battling hemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis (HLH), a rare and potentially fatal disorder where the immune system overreacts and no longer functions properly, leading to organ damage and death if left untreated. The disease can also damage the liver, spleen, and bone marrow. Despite his efforts, Waseh remained positive and brave throughout his illness, spending weeks in and out of the hospital. A GoFundMe campaign was launched by his family to cover medical and funeral expenses, with over $37,000 raising.
