In the year following President Trump's "Liberation Day" tariffs, consumer goods prices have generally increased. The price of 55 items, including produce, rose on the day before the largest tariff spikes took effect. Produce saw the biggest price jumps, with navel oranges and on-the-vine tomatoes increasing by over 75%. Meanwhile, prices on eggs have dropped significantly, with Jif creamy peanut butter costing more than 40% less than the previous year. The effective tariff rate, which started 2025 at around 2%, now stands at 11%. The war in Iran is expected to drive inflation in the US.
