A man in 2025, outside of Lyon, France, discovered an estimated $800,000 in gold in his backyard. The discovery included five gold bars and a range of gold coins, stored in plastic bags. The man, who had only owned the property for about a year, turned the treasure over to local authorities who determined if it had any archaeological value, which could lead to state claiming ownership. However, if the find was deemed to have any value, the claim goes to the discoverer. The gold bars were traced through identification numbers and confirmed they were not stolen loot. The reason for the discovery is not disclosed.
