Actor and activist Billy Porter has warned that opportunities are being increasingly limited for Black & queer artists in President Donald Trump's America. He joined a protest at the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C., amid concerns that the institution's cultural agenda is threatening creative independence. The demonstration, featuring figures such as Jane Fonda, Joan Baez, and Jim Acosta, was held amid concerns of a two-year closure due to staffing cuts and a reorientation of programming under Trump’s cultural agenda. Critics argue these moves threaten artistic independence and free expression. The protest was part of a larger national mobilization, with over eight million people participating in coordinated No Kings demonstrations across all 50 states. The protests were among the largest single-day turnouts in recent U.S. history.
