Walpole man gets prison time for smuggling gold into US from Colombia and money laundering, feds say

Thomas Cataloni, a 46-year-old man from Walpole, has been sentenced to four months in prison for his role in a scheme to smuggle gold, platinum, and other precious metals into the US from Colombia and then laundering the money. The scheme involved sending hundreds of thousands of dollars to bank accounts in Colombia to pay for the smuggling. To facilitate smuggling, the gold and platinum was melted in Colombia and formed into crude jewelry.
