Sean Wang, an assistant professor of accounting at Southern Methodist University (SMU), has filed a lawsuit against the university for unlawful discrimination and retaliation. Wang alleges that SMU's Accounting Department has had a systematic pattern of discrimination since the arrival of Indian-origin professor Hemang Desai. His complaint alleges that for Wang not being of Indian ancestry, SMU would have granted him tenure. The complaint also alleges that Wang was recorded in SMU’s human resources and equal employment opportunity records as “White” and created false records that removed recognition of his minority status from official records. If true, Wang's complaint suggests extreme anti-white bias at SMU.
