A 25-year-old Venezuelan migrant has been arrested in connection to the fatal shooting of 18 year-old Loyola University Chicago freshman, Sheridan Gorman, near the school's lakefront campus. The suspect was identified after reviewing internal surveillance footage and recovering a firearm from the scene. The shooting occurred shortly after 1 a.m. Thursday. The Cook County Medical Examiner's Office determined Gorman died from a gunshot wound to the torso, contradicting an earlier police statement that she had been shot in the head. The only prior arrest in Cook County was a shoplifting misdemeanor in June 2023. No charges have been filed in Gorman's death.
