Stuart Cinema and Café, the first Black Latina-owned movie theater in New York, is moving to Long Island City, where it has been operating for eight years. The venue was founded by producer and entrepreneur Emelyn Stuart after she was frustrated with barriers to independent filmmakers, such as distributor gatekeeping and outdated screening facilities. The move is set to be followed by a major upgrade at the new location, which will include two auditoriums, luxury recliner seating, larger screens, and an expanded menu.
