Kerry Sharples, a 45-year-old woman from Cheshire, England, has been diagnosed with four brain tumors, which her doctors believe could be linked to her using birth control injections for 21 years. Her doctor advised her to stop taking her hormonal birth control shots to avoid monthly periods. Sharples had been receiving these injections regularly for a decade. She believes that if she knew of a small link between the shots and meningiomas beforehand, she would have made a different decision about her personal health plan. The National Institutes of Health (NHS) has stated that there is a low overall risk of developing meningitis while taking these shots.
