The Metropolitan Nashville Police has opened a state-of-the-art aviation facility at John C. Tune Airport, marking the department's first airport-based helicopter operations. The new facility, nearly 22,000 square feet in size, includes 10,000 sq. ft of hangar space and an additional 12,000sq. of office space. The aviation unit relocated from the training academy grounds in Bordeaux, where it previously operated. The facility houses two helicopters, a flight simulator, and a weight room, among other spaces. The addition of Metro Nashville Police indicates the growth of the region, with officials noting that the rent from these hangars allows them to repave the runways and maintain safety.
