The type of alcohol that you cannot keep in your liquor cabinet indefinitely is the type that need to be stored properly to prevent bacterial growth. This distinction is based on the percentage of ABV (alcohol by volume) and the amount of sugar added to the spirit. A higher sugar content in a liqueur, like Grand Marnier, Campari, Drambuie, and Midori, can result in a shorter shelf life compared to other liquors with less sugar and a higher percentage of alcohol. Proper storage can extend the shelf life of liqueurs and cordials, particularly those with fruit or cream in them. However, wine-based spirits like vermouth should be kept in the refrigerator immediately after opening.
