Quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo, once the highest-paid player in the NFL, may be retiring after serving as Matt Stafford's backup with the Los Angeles Rams for the past two seasons. Despite starting just 64 games in his 12 years in the league, he has earned more than $156 million and is considering retirement. He has played in 12 NFL seasons since being drafted from the New England Patriots in 2004 and six with the 49ers. His biggest season in San Francisco was 2019, when he threw for 3,978 yards and 27 touchdowns and led to a 13-3 record and a 31-20 Super Bowl LIV loss to the Kansas City Chiefs.
