Pastor Jamal Bryant has ended the yearlong "Target fast," stating that the campaign delivered measurable results, even though it did not check every box. The retailer confirmed it will complete its $2 billion pledge to support Black-owned businesses by April 2026, with more than 95% already fulfilled. However, Bryant acknowledged that one key demand remains unresolved, while Target has invested in Community Development Financial Institutions, but organizers say broader support for Black-own banks has yet to materialize. The fast began in 2025 as a 40-day Lenten effort but quickly evolved into a nationwide boycott. Despite initial controversy over Bryant's initial announcement, he later admitted missing the mark and clarified that the fast was part of a broader boycott.
