Tomas Hertl scored the game-winning goal in the overtime, capping a comeback effort from the Golden Knights after trailing by two goals in the third period. The game marked the end of a road trip for the Red Wings, which finished 2-3 on their five-game road trip. Golden Knights' comeback came after falling behind 3-0 in their previous three losses. The Red Wings' Patrick Kane became the all-time NHL points leader among U.S.-born players in January 2026, earning 1,375 points, surpassing the previous record in the league.
