A jury in Chicago has rejected legal claims brought by Chance the Rapper by his longtime manager Pat Corcoran, known as Pat the Manager. The verdict follows a two-and-a-half week trial between Chance (Chancelor Bennett) and Corcoron, who had previously been inseparable but ended up parting ways a few years ago due to bad terms. Corcorran claimed he was owed $3.8 million in unpaid commissions, including a "sunset clause" that ran three years post-termination, even though the two never had a written contract. The jury rejected these claims and awarded Chance only $35 in damages, rather than the $1 million sought by Chance. The case was also decided against CorCoran on his 2021 countersuit, accusing him of breaching fiduciary duties and exploiting career opportunities for his own benefit.
