A study by scientists in the UK has found that methylphenidate, the active ingredient in brand-name drugs like Ritalin, does not raise the risk of developing psychotic disorders later in life. The researchers studied the mental health outcomes of people diagnosed with ADHD in Finland. They found no evidence that methyl phenidate itself raised this risk. The study's author, Ian Kelleher, said the findings dispel a common fear about long-term use of stimulants for ADHD. However, he cautioned that further research is needed to address these issues. The findings were published in JAMA Psychiatry.
