New York-based Monica Eryn Johnson, a 40-year-old beauty entrepreneur, advertising producer and pianist, was forced to undergo complete pelvic reconstructive surgery after doctors ignored her diagnosis for nearly a decade. Johnson, who first began experiencing symptoms several years ago, attributed them to changing hormones and was constantly fatigued and experienced bloating, bladder/abdominal pressure, and inability to lose weight despite her efforts. She also experienced severe abdominal and pelvic pain, cramping, burning sensations, heavy bleeding, and ongoing fatigue. An ultrasound confirmed multiple fibroids, including one the size of a grapefruit. Johnson underwent surgery within eight weeks and is now recovering from the years-long ordeal.
