New Haven city leaders have announced that an increase in state funding will cover the school budget deficit and lower the projected property tax increase. The additional $23 million in the state budget is expected to make it easier for the New Haven school superintendent, Madeline Negrón, who was facing a budget deficit of around $13 million earlier this year. The money will also be used to fund the city's crisis response team and the Foxon Boulevard Emergency Shelter.
