‘Habitual offender’ originally accused in connection with San Antonio murder won’t face prison time

Juan Gabriel Medina, originally accused of murdering Davian Corey Mendoza in 2022, has been granted deferred adjudication on a lesser charge of unlawfully carrying a weapon as a previously convicted felon. This means he will not face any time behind bars. The charge is considered a second-degree felony. Medina's murder charge was waived before he was sentenced to 10 years deferred adjudation. He was previously convicted of separate felonies in 2005 and 2011. On March 25, 2024, a Bexar County grand jury indicted Medina in connection with MendoZA's 2022 murder. The charges against Medina were dismissed after obtaining a state jail report and the SAPD state's March 2024 incident.
