Yorkville senior Callie Ferko led the way for the Yorkville softball team in a 6-5 victory over Kaneland in the season opener, delivering a two-run triple that sent the game into extra innings. Ferko's performance helped the Foxes secure a win in the 10th, with Yorkville rallying from two runs down to score the tying and winning runs on an errant throw on a bases-loaded infield grounder off the bat of freshman Austyn Strike. The win was a true team character win for Ferko, who primarily plays catcher and third base for her travel team but played right field. The game was also marked by a 4-for-5 day for junior outfielder Riley Cooper.
