A bill aimed at ending "secretive transitions" in Idaho schools and healthcare settings, House Bill 822, also known as the Pediatric Secretive Transitions Parental Rights Act, has passed the Idaho Senate in a 27-8 vote. The bill would require teachers or healthcare providers to report any request by a child to change their name, pronouns, or dress to a gender different from their biological sex to parents within 72 hours. Failure to comply could result in lawsuits and civil penalties of up to $100,000. Critics argue that the bill forces trusted adults to either "out" or face severe civil penalties. The ACLU of Idaho has criticised the bill as "a sweeping act of government overreach". Governor Little has five days to sign the bill, veto it, or allow it to become law without his signature.
