Several former Miami Hurricanes players were selected in the first round of the NFL Draft, with offensive lineman Francis Mauigoa being the first to be drafted by the New York Giants. Mauigo, who anchored Miami's offensive line during their College Football Playoff national championship game, is the first Hurricanes offensive lineman to be selected in first round since Ereck Flowers in 2015. With the 15th pick overall, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers selected Canes edge rusher Rueben Bain Jr. Akheem Mesidor, another former Canes player, was selected by the Los Angeles Chargers at 22. The draft could result in double-digit draftees for Miami since 2002, a first since 2002.
