United States president Donald Trump has assured FIFA that Iran is "welcome" to compete at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, according to FIFA president Gianni Infantino. This comes after the US and Israel launched air strikes on Iran on Feb. 28, which has led to Iran retaliating against US military bases in the region. Despite this, FIFA president Infante has insisted that Trump is supportive of Iran's participation in the tournament. The Iranian team is set to play all three of their group games in the US, potentially facing co-hosts if they fail.
