A group of Texas families are planning to appeal the state's Ten Commandments law to the U.S. Supreme Court after a federal court upheld Senate Bill 10, which requires the Ten commandments to be displayed in every public school classroom across Texas. The lawsuit was brought by 15 families of different religious backgrounds who argue the law violates their constitutional rights. The plaintiffs are represented by the American Civil Liberties Union, the ACLU of Texas, Americans United for Separation of Church and State, and the Freedom From Religion Foundation. Rabbi Joshua Fixler, who sued Houston ISD, argues that the law promotes a specific religious viewpoint in public schools and could send a message to students of other faiths. Supporters of the law argue that the displays help students understand the country's history and legal system.
