Sotheby's chairman Benjamin Doller won the record-breaking 15-piece set of ornate mirrors by Claude Lalanne, which sold for over $33.45 million at auction. The mirrors were commissioned by Yves Saint Laurent and Pierre Bergé in their Paris apartment, where they lived. The work took nearly 10 years to complete and transformed the salon’s four walls into an immersive space. The auction included around 130 works from the Lalanne collection, which included works by Alberto Giacometti, Jean Royère, Paul Dupré-Lafon, and more. The Lalanne mirrors have not been seen publicly in their entirety for over a decade, making their reappearance especially significant.
