Republicans Seek Someone to Blame After Supreme Court Blowout

Wisconsin conservatives are arguing over who is responsible for the Republican Party's 20-point loss in the April Supreme Court election, following a surge in social media following the race that saw Justice-elect Chris Taylor defeat conservative Judge Maria Lazar by the largest margin in decades. Some conservatives called for the resignation of Chair Brian Schimming or dismissal, while others blamed Lazar's lackluster fundraising. The Republican Party of Wisconsin is split on whether Schimming should be fired or resign. Despite liberals winning the last three Supreme Court races by double-digits, this election was marked by a significant loss for the Republicans. Republican Tommy Thompson, the longest-serving governor, said the biggest problem is the massive margins Democrats have been able to gain against GOP candidates in Dane and Milwaukee counties. He said that the only way Republicans can win in Wisconsin is to cut into these votes out of Dane County and Milwaukee County.
