Shields Ferry suspension extended until at least mid-April

The The Shields Ferry, a ferry service that runs across the River Tyne between North Shields and South Shields, has been suspended since 29 January after a storm damaged its north landing. The operator, Nexus, has extended the suspension to allow for further essential monitoring and analysis. The repairs are largely complete but movement monitoring systems still need to be fitted. A replacement bus is running and ferry tickets are being accepted on the Tyne and Wear Metro.
