The system scans semen samples for microscopic one-in-a-million sperm cells hidden in biological noise. It is already finding sperm in nearly 30% of cases where men had been told they were hopeless. This is significant as infertility affects around one in six people globally and the influences that determine male fertility are involved in up to half of those cases. However, while the technology offers a small sliver of hope, it does not guarantee that any viable sperm will lead to pregnancy.
