ESMT Berlin, Germany, has become a leading international business school with a commitment to sustainability. The school, located in the middle of Berlin, installs a photovoltaic (PV) system on the roof of its historical main building, which covers up to 25 percent of the school’s electricity needs and helps reduce an estimated 150 tons of CO2 emissions annually. The campus garden is a place where transformative sustainability is at the forefront. The ESMT Institute for Sustainable Transformation (IST), founded in 2024, aims to support businesses in accelerating their sustainable transformations. Sustainability is also central to the E SMT Institute's many initiatives, including leading campus decarbonization efforts, helping implement sustainability literacy amongst corporate partners, hosting the Sustainable Business Roundtable, and supporting faculty research. Students can explore sustainability further in their studies during their summer elective programs like the Sustainabilities in Practice (SIP) consulting project.
