Gabon is seeking an IMF loan from the International Monetary Fund (IMF) to help stabilise its finances. The IMF is a crucial role in stabilising the Central African OPEC-member, but concerns over Gabon's debt transparency and the government's willingness to implement tough reforms have raised skepticism. The government has yet to make a formal request to the IMF for a new programme, and its track record and transparency concerns could complicate its wooing. Fitch Ratings warned last year that the large fiscal deficit in the 2026 budget will make obtaining a IMF loan difficult.
