Check Your Health- Multiple Sclerosis Awareness Month
Published on March 27, 2026.
March is National Multiple Sclerosis Awareness Month, a time to raise awareness about the neurological disease that affects over one million Americans. MS is a chronic disease of the central nervous system of the body, affecting the brain and spinal cord. Most people are diagnosed with MS between the ages of 20 and 50, although it can occur in older adults and young children. The disease is caused by the body’s immune system mistakenly attacking a substance called myelin, which protects nerve fibers. MS symptoms can fluctuate between periods of remission (no symptoms) to relapse (also known as attacks), and it is essential for patients to consult with their primary care physicians if they have any symptoms of MS. There is no current cure for MS and there are many treatments that can be effective in stabilizing the disease.
