Apple celebrated its golden anniversary with a series of events around the world, including a concert by Paul McCartney at Apple Park in Cupertino. The company was founded in 1976 by Steve Jobs and Steve Wozniak, with the debut of the Apple II in 1977. The more advanced Apple II was released a year later, making personal computing a reality. A memorable Super Bowl XVIII commercial featuring the company depicted its competitors as bland, soulless drones and Apple as the avatar of freedom. The iMac was designed by Jony Ive and introduced by its shape and color, and its design remains so entwined with Apple’s counterculture message.
