The infected MV Hondius cruise ship has been blocked from docking in the Canary Islands due to the ongoing hantavirus outbreak. The region's president, Fernando Clavijo, has criticised Spain's decision to allow the ship to dock, claiming it was based on insufficient technical criteria and lack of information to reassure the public or ensure their safety. Clavija also accused the Spanish government of showing "institutional disloyalty". The ship, which had been stranded in West African waters off Cape Verde, had been expected to dock in either Tenerife or Gran Canaria, where those on board would be examined or repatriated back to their origin countries. Three people have died and at least five have been sickened from the outbreak.
