Tinley Park, Chicago, residents have protested a proposed reduction of the speed limit on Ridgeland Avenue, a road maintained by Cook County, by which they fear speeding cars and lack of sidewalks and street lighting. The county is set to approve the change on June 11 if it passes through a county committee. Neighbors argue that the speed change is not enough and should be reduced or paired with traffic calming measures, as the road is a major collector roadway that carries more traffic than a local street. The Cook County Department of Transportation and Highways proposed the change after receiving a speed limit modification request from Tinley Park officials. However, some residents believe the county has a hard time convincing the county to lower speed limits.
