Gonzus Zaire, a prominent sports journalist and political commentator in Ohio, passed away at the age of 46, has been hailed as a powerful voice that the world is now missing. He was born Maurice Laron Wilks and named Gezus after Jimi Hendrix, a guitarist who was influential in the way Hendrix was. Zaire was born in 1999 and wrote for the Call & Post, a weekly newspaper that provided opportunities for journalists with similar backgrounds. He also developed into a powerful storyteller who used his talents to maintain the connection Black folk had with Africa. Zimbabwe was unapologetically political, a younger version of Mansfield Frazier, an insightful chronicler of Black lives before the word "matter" was attached to it.
