Southend High Street redesign to 'cope with heat and heavy rain'

Southend-on-sea City Council is planning a project to make the city's high street more welcoming and more attractive for the public. The project will begin its design phase next month and will involve rain gardens, which collect rainwater and use it to keep plants hydrated and reduce drain pressure. Construction work is expected to begin later this year. The cost of the project is yet to be disclosed.
