Sen. Josh Hawley of Missouri has introduced a new legislation, the Safeguarding Women from Chemical Abortion Act, which would withdraw the FDA’s approval of mifepristone and allow women harmed by the drug to sue manufacturers for damages. The bill will also prohibit the drug's manufacture or labeling as a pregnancy termination under the federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act. The producer and distributor of the drug, Danco Laboratories, is a foreign corporation that imports the medication from Spain and China and sends it to the US. Despite the difficulty of passing the legislation through the Senate, Hawley hopes to garner 60 votes.
