The owner of the now-shuttered West Suburban Medical Center, Dr. Manoj Prasad, has stated he hopes to reopen the hospital this summer, but questions remain over whether this plan will be implemented. Prassad was forced to close the hospital last week due to problems with its billing system, which led to the hospital not being able to collect payments for claims. However, Rep. La Shawn Ford, who represents the area, expressed doubts about the plan, noting that a cash infusion would be necessary for the hospital to reopen. The closure of the hospital has left many workers out of work, patients unable to provide medical care and may lead to heavier patient loads. West Suburur, which owes the state over $50 million in unpaid taxes and has been unable to pay any current taxes, has begun making payments towards its current taxes in September.
