China is expanding its nuclear weapons infrastructure in Sichuan province, according to a CNN investigation. Satellite images show that a village in the area has been flattened and new buildings have been erected to support some of China's most important nuclear weapons production facilities. The expansion supports claims by the US President, Donald Trump, that China is undertaking its most significant nuclear weapon modernization campaign in decades. This comes as the latest arms reduction agreement between Russia and the United States expired, with Trump seeking a new deal with Russia. The most significant addition to the area is an enormous dome, shaped like a Tic Tac, which was built inside a nuclear weapons base long known to the CIA. Jeffrey Lewis, a distinguished scholar of global security at Middlebury College, said the facility was a "rorschach test" for people's worst nightmares about what China is up to.
