United Airlines is increasing its first and second checked bag fee by $10 per bag on flights within the US., Mexico, Canada, and Latin America. The move comes as rising fuel costs force airlines to raise fees across the industry. This follows a similar increase in JetBlue's own baggage fees, which also increased by at least $4 per bag. The airline is maintaining its $5 pre-flight discount for most markets and maintaining free checked bags for MileagePlus Premier members, customers holding eligible United cobranded Chase credit cards, active military members, and passengers flying in premium cabins. The increase comes alongside changes to United's loyalty program, which will allow more mileage earned per flight.
