Venezuelan national Jose Medina-Medina, accused of murdering 18-year-old college freshman Sheridan Gorman, is reportedly illiterate and unable to read or write due to a bullet wound to the head years prior to entering the U.S. His attorney claims that he was robbed, beaten and shot in the head in South America in 2018, leaving him with bullet fragments in his brain and a portion of a skull. The suspect was released into the country by the Biden administration and turned himself in to authorities at the Texas-Mexico border in 2023. His current age is reportedly 25 or 26, and he was still a teenager at the time he was shot.
