The back-to-back kona storms have significantly impacted visitor numbers and tourism, according to the Hawaii Tourism Authority (HTA) and Department of Business, Economic Development and Tourism. The HTA has warned that tourists should avoid the hardest-hit areas and instead stay away from these areas in respect for the residents of those affected areas. The tourism industry has seen a significant decrease in visitor arrivals from the continental U.S. during the storms, with passenger counts at HNL dropping to 7,829 and 18,187 during the first kona low, while statewide numbers were 18,188. However, they rebounded to 14,629 on Oahu and 25,276 statewide five days later. Some visitors have also returned to the North Shore to aid in the recovery efforts.
