Billy Porter, a prominent writer, director, fashion luminary, and stage actor, nearly died from sepsis last fall, which left him in a coma for three days. Porter was set to perform as Emcee in a Broadway revival of "Cabaret" when he was hospitalized. Sepsis can result in a rapid drop in blood pressure and damage to the lungs, kidneys, liver and other organs. Porter said his ordeal was caused by a urinary infection that was not properly treated and spread to his kidneys. He is currently on the road to complete recovery and plans to continue his creative endeavors.
