LA weighs major changes to LAHSA as layoffs reshape homelessness agency

The Los Angeles Homeless Services Authority (LAHSA) is set to lay off 284 employees as part of a restructuring that will eliminate more than 400 positions. This follows Los Angeles County's decision to withdraw funding from LAHSA and establish its own homeless department. The agency plans to take on a more limited role in coordinating the region’s rehousing system starting July 1. The layoffs have been part of the larger restructuring of LAH SA, which will also reduce its role in managing data, assisting in accessing services and applying for federal funding. The move comes amid concerns about the agency's structure and effectiveness, with some city leaders suggesting it could disrupt services and improve progress.
