Friends of Wichita Pioneers is a nonprofit working to preserve history by finding and documenting unmarked graves at Highland Cemetery. The group is currently working with researchers at Wichita State with a grant funded program to find unmarked graves. Richard Robinson, the sole African American signer of the Wichita Charter, died in the 1870s but his legacy continued through his son, who was also the first black fire captain. The nonprofit was presented with a $1,200 check by KWCH and DeVaughn James Injury Lawyers.
