The Department of Public Safety (DPS) has reported a 71% increase in motorcycle fatalities from 2023 to 2025, with nearly 60% of crashes since 2021 involving riders younger than 35 years old. The increase is attributed to two deaths in the last two weeks. Over 75% of riders involved in deadly crashes did not have motorcycle license enforcements and less than 10% had taken a motorcycle safety course. The top five factors for a deadly crash in 2025 were failure to yield the right of way, reckless driving, aggressive driving, and disregarding traffic signs or signals. The DPS is working to prevent this trend from occurring again.
