Cleveland biotech start-up Asclepii, founded in a college dorm room, aims to help people with chronic wounds heal faster and reduce life-threatening infections for less cost. The company's gel, Poseidon, contains tiny particles of antibacterial silver and is touted as safer and more affordable than other products due to its less silver use. The gel has already successfully healed hard-to-close wounds and has helped a Cleveland woman avoid a leg amputation due to diabetes, neuropathy, and blocked arteries. AsClepii's CEO, Franco Kraiselburd, has been studying at Case Western Reserve University and named it for Greek god of healing. Another product, Artemis, is awaiting FDA clearance and is designed to encourage cells around a wound to grow tissue instead of collagen.
